HGU-12V — The Drop-In Replacement 12 V Monobloc for Every Small UPS and Alarm Panel

34 sealed 12 V AGM models from 4.5 Ah to 250 Ah — the everyday replacement monobloc for UPS, EPS and security

If you maintain a fleet of small UPS units, fire-alarm panels, access-control boards or telecom FTTx nodes, the HGU-12V monobloc is the 12 V battery you can stock once and use everywhere. Thirty-four capacity steps between 4.5 Ah and 250 Ah, all on the same AGM recipe, all using the same F1/F2/F3/F12/F16/F20 terminal families. Pull a 12 Ah off the shelf for an office UPS today, a 100 Ah tomorrow for a small telecom cabinet — the float voltage is identical and the commissioning card is identical.

What is the HGU-12V?

The HGU-12V is the small-form-factor 12 V AGM monobloc family within the HGU platform. It uses absorbed-glass-matt separator, a one-way pressure-relief valve with flame arrester, and a flame-retardant ABS case. Capacity covers the full small-stationary range from 4.5 Ah (a typical alarm panel draws less than 0.5 A in standby) to 250 Ah (a small telecom cabinet or edge-IT rack). All models share the same float voltage of 13.5 V at 25 °C, the same equalise ceiling of 14.4 V, and the same low self-discharge rate, so a single charger setting works across the whole range.

  • 34 capacity steps from 4.5 Ah to 250 Ah (C20, 10.5 V end voltage)

  • AGM VRLA — sealed, no topping-up

  • Float design life 8–12 years at 25 °C (model-dependent)

  • Low self-discharge, recoverable from deep discharge

  • Common terminal families F1/F2/F3/F12/F16/F20

  • CE / UL / IEC 60896-21/22 documentation pack

Frequently asked questions

1. Can I swap an HGU-12V cell for a different brand in an existing UPS?

Yes — the HGU-12V monobloc is built to industry-standard footprints and uses the common F1/F2/F3/F12/F16/F20 terminal families. As long as the original cell is also an AGM VRLA monobloc with the same nominal voltage and capacity within ±10 %, the swap is a direct mechanical and electrical replacement.

2. What is the difference between the small (4.5–9 Ah) and the mid (12–55 Ah) models?

The 4.5–9 Ah models use the 90 × 70 mm or 151 × 65 mm case and F1/F2 tabs — typical of alarm panels and small UPS. The 12–55 Ah models use the 151 × 98 mm or 197 × 166 mm case with F1/F2/F3/M5 tabs — typical of mid-size UPS and access-control panels. Both share the same float voltage.

3. Can HGU-12V batteries be mounted on their side?

Yes — the VRLA AGM construction is fully orientation-tolerant. For best practice, mount upright where possible to keep the valve path clear, but horizontal or end-mount orientations are accepted by the cell manufacturer.

4. How long can an HGU-12V sit on a warehouse shelf?

Factory-fresh HGU-12V monoblocs self-discharge below 3 % per month at 25 °C, so a typical 12-month storage cycle is acceptable without re-charge. After 12 months, a refresh charge at 13.8–14.4 V for 24 hours restores full capacity.

5. Is there a 12 V monobloc for outdoor cabinets?

The standard HGU-12V case is ABS — rated for indoor or sheltered outdoor use. For direct outdoor exposure (sun, rain, salt spray), we recommend the HGUG tubular GEL family, which is built for harsher thermal cycling.

6. Do you make 6 V or 8 V versions?

The HGU platform's 2 V cell family covers 6 V (3-cell) and 8 V (4-cell) configurations by stringing the 2 V cells. For monobloc 6 V / 8 V only, please contact us for a special-build quote.

7. Can I get a higher-capacity version of a popular case size?

The HGU-12V range is the result of several rounds of case-density optimisation. If you need more capacity in a fixed footprint (e.g. 100 Ah in a 12 V monobloc), the 2 V HGU Series cells or the HGUX high-power family offer better energy density.

8. What's the difference between HGU-12V and HGUX?

HGU-12V is the everyday standby monobloc, optimised for 20-hour capacity. HGUX is the high-power family optimised for 5-minute and 15-minute discharge at much higher current — built specifically for UPS ride-through.
